THE Spotted Mallard lights up for a star-studded night
of Celtic music featuring the acclaimed traditional Irish
flute player John Blake in his only Melbourne performance.
John will be joined by the wonderful Mairéad
Hurley on concertina and Joe Ferguson on the
Irish bouzouki in a once-off trio that will most certainly
play the house down!
Cat & Clint will kick the night off in grand
style with their sweet vocal harmonies and Old Time clawhammer
banjo and fiddle tunes.

This is a Thursday night gig, and with the next day as
a public holiday, there will certainly be a session after
the show! We can kick back and enjoy the finest of Irish
traditional music along with The Spotted Mallard's famous
hospitality.
JOHN BLAKE
John Blake is a traditional Irish flute player,
guitarist and pianist. An ex member of traditional group
Teada, John has performed and recorded with the cream
of Irish musicians including, John Carty, Paddy Glackin,
Noel Hill, Liam OFlynn, Jesse Smith, Harry Bradley,
Colm Gannon, The Kane Sisters and James Kelly.
Brought up in London, John was immersed in the vibrant
Irish music scene at the time, and was tutored by famed
teacher Brendan Mulkere. He moved to Ireland in 1998 and
developed a reputation as an accompanist of note, racking
up several album credits. He joined traditional band Teada
in 2001 and toured with them for 3 years, at which point
he got off the road and settled into a job in Na Píobairí
Uilleann (The Pipers Club) in Dublin.
John released his debut solo album The Narrow Edge
in December 2013

MAIRÉAD HURLEY
Mairéad is from Ballymote, Co Sligo, and won the
All Ireland Concertina Senior Championships at the Fleadh
Cheoil na hEireann in 2006. Music runs in her blood as
her father is a flute and tin whistle teacher and her
four siblings all play music. She has been playing since
she was four years old.
Mairéad moved to Australian in 2014, and is now
based in Melbourne where she has become immersed in its
vibrant music scene. Mairéad is an awesome player
who will add a level of magic and excitement to this brilliant
night of Celtic music.

JOE FERGUSON
Joe has been playing Irish music since 1991 and has been
an integral member of a number of Australian Irish trad
bands (the Tinkers, Reels on Wheels) prior to joining
Trouble in the Kitchen. Over time this he has built an
international reputation for his subtle, driving and intricate
bouzouki accompaniment style.
CAT & CLINT
Cat & Clint play Old Time, featuring sweet vocal harmonies,
clawhammer banjo and driving fiddle tunes. Predominantly
traditional Old Time music from the Southern States of
America, they mix it up with a few original songs, a touch
of blues and some vintage country. They live in Blackwood,
VIC which is fast becoming one of the Bluegrass and Old
Time hot spots of Australia.
